The Ilum Collection is a luxury range of scented candles and home fragrances, combining porcelain pieces with stunning graphic designs and exceptional scents inspired by family heritage. For example, the Seul Monde scented candle is poured into a handcrafted porcelain vessel, adorned with graphic patterns inspired by the tapestries, ceramic tiles, and wooden sculptures of their grandfather's home in Antwerp. Its fragrance evokes vintage cologne.

The decorative scented candle Sahara releases a lightly spicy scent. Accentuated notes of bergamot blend with incense, nutmeg, and clove, all resting on a base of amber, vanilla, and patchouli, refreshing the home like a fragrant desert breeze. The porcelain holder is decorated with golden graphic designs.

Max Benjamin scented candles create the perfect ambiance. Made from a blend of multiple types of natural wax and Italian cotton wicks, these candles are infused with the finest essential oils—an ideal fragrance combination for any room and mood.

The Wick

The braided wick is made of 100% Italian cotton. It is lead-free, ensuring a clean burn without black smoke. Each wick is manually applied inside the vessel, passed through a metal base, and perfectly centered to optimize wax burning.

The Wax

100% natural soy wax – NO PARAFFIN.
The wax used for Max Benjamin candles comes from 100% natural sources. It is a blend of soy wax and other plant-based reusable waxes. It contains no paraffin, is biodegradable, and eco-friendly. Unlike paraffin wax, it burns slowly and cleanly, without soot, and contains no animal-derived substances.
Because it is plant-based, fragrance release and texture may vary—this is completely normal.
The wax is blended with fragrance (essential oils) at a precise temperature to create a homogeneous liquid, ensuring even scent release over time. Do not burn the candle for more than 2-3 hours at a time—the melted wax will continue to emit fragrance even after extinguishing the flame.

Manufacturing Process

Step one: approximately 75% of the vessel’s capacity is poured, then cooled, with any gaps or air bubbles smoothed manually.
Next, about 1 cm of wax is poured on top, cooled again, and then packaged.

About the Brand

Max Benjamin is owned by siblings Orla, Mark, and David Van den Bergh from Enniskerry, County Wicklow. Named after Orla’s twin sons, Max and Ben, the company began producing natural, handcrafted candles in the 1990s.
Max Benjamin’s unique fragrance collections are admired worldwide for their contemporary design, craftsmanship, and use of natural ingredients. Today, the Van den Bergh family continues to take people on a journey of exploration and expression through fragrance.
Founder Orla Van den Bergh learned candle-making in the United States, where she discovered the complexities of creating high-quality candles. Her skill in blending waxes and essential oils came naturally and remains key to the brand.
Upon returning to Ireland, Orla brought this expertise with her, producing refined candles that quickly grew in popularity—thus beginning the Max Benjamin story.
