Wick

The braided wick is made from 100% Italian cotton and is lead-free for a clean burn with no black smoke. Each wick is hand-set in the vessel, centered precisely using a metal base for optimal wax consumption.

Wax

100% natural soy wax – PARAFFIN FREE

The wax blend used in Max Benjamin candles comes from 100% natural sources. It is a mixture of soy wax and other plant-based reusable waxes. It contains no paraffin, is biodegradable, and environmentally friendly. The wax burns slowly and cleanly, without producing soot, and contains no animal-derived substances.

Due to the natural and plant-based composition, variations in scent throw and texture are normal. The wax is blended with fragrance (essential oils) at a specific temperature to create a homogenous liquid, ensuring a consistent scent release over time. The candle should not be burned for more than 2–3 hours at a time—melted wax continues to emit fragrance even after the flame is extinguished.

Manufacturing Process

First, about 75% of the vessel is filled with wax. After cooling, any gaps or air bubbles are smoothed out manually. Then, approximately 1 cm of wax is poured on top and allowed to cool again before packaging.

About the Brand

Max Benjamin is owned by siblings Orla, Mark, and David Van den Bergh in Enniskerry, County Wicklow. Named after Orla’s twin sons, Max and Ben, the company has been producing handmade natural candles since the 1990s.

Max Benjamin’s unique fragrance collections are renowned worldwide for their contemporary design, artisanal quality, and use of natural ingredients. Today, the Van den Bergh family continues to take people on a journey of scent-driven discovery and expression.

Founder Orla Van den Bergh learned the art of candle-making in America, where she discovered the complexity of crafting high-end candles. Her talent for combining various waxes and essential oils continues to shape the brand. Upon returning to Ireland, she brought this knowledge home to create refined candles—thus beginning the story of Max Benjamin.
