Ilum Collection is a luxurious range of scented candles and home fragrances that combines porcelain pieces with bold graphic designs and exceptional scents inspired by family heritage. For example, the Seul Monde scented candle is poured into a handcrafted porcelain vessel, embellished with graphic patterns inspired by tapestries, ceramic tiles, and wooden sculptures from their grandfather’s home in Antwerp. Its fragrance evokes vintage cologne.

The Sahara decorative scented candle spreads a lightly spicy scent. Its pronounced notes of bergamot blend with frankincense, nutmeg, and clove, all resting on a base of amber, vanilla, and patchouli—reviving your space like a fragrant morning breeze in the desert. The porcelain holder is adorned with golden graphic designs.

Max Benjamin scented candles create the perfect ambiance. Made from a blend of various natural waxes and Italian cotton wicks, the candles are fragranced using the finest essential oils. The ideal combination of scents for any room and mood.

The Wick

The braided wick is made of 100% Italian cotton. It contains no lead, ensuring a clean burn with no black smoke. Each wick is manually centered in the vessel through a metal base to optimize wax burning.

The Wax

100% natural soy wax – PARAFFIN-FREE.
The wax blend used in Max Benjamin candles comes from 100% natural sources, combining soy wax with other reusable plant-based waxes. It contains no paraffin, is biodegradable and eco-friendly. The wax burns slowly and cleanly, without producing soot. It contains no animal-derived substances.
Due to its natural, plant-based composition, scent diffusion and texture may vary slightly—this is completely normal.
The wax is blended with essential oils at a specific temperature to create a uniform liquid, ensuring an even scent release over time. The candle should not burn for more than 2–3 hours at a time—the melted wax continues to emit fragrance even after extinguishing the flame.

Manufacturing Process

First, about 75% of the vessel’s capacity is poured and allowed to cool. Any gaps or air bubbles are manually smoothed out.
Then, approximately 1 cm of wax is added, and the candle is cooled again before being packaged.

About the Brand

Max Benjamin is owned by siblings Orla, Mark, and David Van den Bergh from Enniskerry, County Wicklow. Named after Orla’s twin sons, Max and Ben, the company has been handcrafting natural candles since the 1990s. Their unique fragrance collections are appreciated worldwide for their contemporary design, masterful production, and use of natural ingredients. Today, the Van den Bergh family continues to take people on a journey of exploration and expression through scent.
Founder Orla Van den Bergh learned candle-making in the U.S., where she discovered the complexity of crafting high-quality candles. Her ability to blend various waxes and essential oils came naturally and remains key to the brand’s identity.
Upon returning to Ireland, she applied her knowledge to create refined candles that became more popular than she ever imagined—thus began the Max Benjamin story.
