Collection Brains designed by Bertil Vallien is a fascinating exploration of the intermediate state between dream and reality. The first piece was created in 1999, inspired by the enigmatic story of Karolina Olsson, Soverskan pa Okno, who is said to have slept for 32 years before suddenly waking up one April day in 1908. This mysterious story has always lingered in the artist's mind, profoundly influencing his work over the years.
In 2023, on the occasion of his 60th anniversary as a glass artist at KOSTA BODA, Bertil Vallien launched a new series of Brains sculptures. These creations pay tribute to those who have followed his career over the years and have continuously admired his unique ability to innovate glass art. The anniversary versions of the Brains sculptures are larger and heavier than previous ones, with each piece elegantly resting on a soft leather cushion. Bertil describes this gesture as a moment of peace and relaxation at the end of the day, when the last thoughts cool down and the head rests in the hand.
The anniversary edition Brains was first produced in 2023. Starting this year, a new Brains sculpture will be released every year on January 17th, Bertil Vallien's birthday.
